The highlight of nature for yesterday's walk through the woods was finding a few Mourning Cloak Butterfly,
Nymphalis antiopa. The pathways to the forest were lined with sand and these were drinking on the patches. This is one of those butterflies you're more likely to see on rotting fruit than flowers. They have a wide range of host plants, mostly willow, but a few other hardwoods too. See
