Herb Walk with Harvest McCampbell
Many of the plants now labeled as weeds were once revered medicinal plants. They happily inhabit the edges of human existence, with standing drought, mowing, and abuse. Cranesbill, dandelion, and chickweed all have a story to tell. Information on herb safety and contra-indications are also included. Harvest McCampbell, author of Sacred Smoke and Food Security & Sustainability (both of which contain information on medicinal plants) has taught herb classes extensively throughout central California and Nevada. Visit her web site to find links to some of her writing on gardening and herbs: http://www.HarvestMcCampbell.com This walk can be as short as an hour, or as long as three hours. Scheduling from 11 to 1 and providing or having folks bring a picnic lunch makes a nice outing. Stories can be shared or told while we break for lunch. The best sites for this program include urban and rural parks with lawn or grass areas that have nearby natural or restored areas. I am currently working on photographing common medicinal plants so this information can be presented in PowerPoint format in the future. However, it is much better to get outside and learn with the plants themselves. If your group has interests in other herbal topics, please let me know. I taught herb classes for over twenty years, and have experience with many aspects of the herbal field. |
